Nigerian international football star John
Obi Mikel has on Friday, January, 6, 2017 announced his mega move to
Chinese Super League club Tianjin Teda and he is expected to be earning
the sum of 140,000 pounds every week.
The
Super Eagles captain was earlier reported to be heading to Valencia,
but the deal could not be sealed which paved way for the Chinese club to
get his signature on a three-year deal.
After
spending ten years at the Stamford Bridge winning eleven trophies with
the Blues, here we bring you six reasons Chelsea fans will not forget
the 29-year-old midfielder.
1. Transfer saga
In
the year 2006, Mikel Obi's transfer from Norwegian side Lyn Oslo to
Stamford bridge generated controversies between Chelsea and Manchester
United.
The player was alleged to have signed for
United before penning another signature to Chelsea. The matter was
eventually resolved when Chelsea had to pay United a substantial amount.

2. Trophies
Mikel
Obi's stint at Chelsea was baptized with lots of success as he has made
374 appearances for the Blues winning 11 trophies along the way.
Premier League: 2009–10, 2014–15, FA Cup: 2006–07, 2008–09, 2009–10,
2011–12, League Cup: 2006-07, 2014-15, FA Community Shield: 2009, UEFA
Champions League: 2011–12, UEFA Europa League: 2012–13.
3. Loyalty
Before his departure at Stamford bridge,
the Super Eagles captain was the second-longest serving player at
Stamford Bridge after John Terry and his consistent role on the bench
forced him out of the club.
4. Pass accuracy
During
his first three years at Stamford bridge, Mikel had the highest pass
completion in the Premier League, boasting an impressive 89.93%, better
than the likes of Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard or Man United’s Paul
Scholes.

5. Threat to referee
Many Chelsea fans won't forget how the
Super Eagles captain was charged with misconduct by the Football
Association (FA) on 22 November 2012.
He was
given a three-match ban and fined £60,000 for threatening referee Mark
Clattenburg during Chelsea's 3 – 2 defeat to Manchester United that
year.
6. 2016 Rio Olympics
Mikel
Obi's participation at the 2016 Rio Olympics was said to be the
rationale why Chelsea manager Antonio Conte refused to give him a
chance, but despite all the pressure, Mikel explained that Conte was in
support of his participation at the Rio 2016 games to the delight of all
Chelsea fans.
